Introduction
Good morning everyone. It’s great to be here with all of you today. As many of you know, my name is James, and I’m here to share my story with you.
My Story
I was never someone who found conversation easy. Small talk always made me feel uneasy and I sometimes found it hard to make connections with people. I also had real trouble opening up and sharing what was really going on in my life.
It wasn’t until university that I started to make real progress. I made a conscious effort to start conversations with people. I was determined to challenge myself, even if it felt uncomfortable.
I discovered that the more I talked to people, the more I could learn from them. I soon found myself in some of the most interesting conversations with my peers.
Putting It Into Practice
I’m still not the most confident person in the room but I’ve certainly come a long way. I’ve learned to start conversations with people, no matter how scary it may seem.
If I’m at a party and feel out of place, I work hard to find someone to talk to. I’m no longer afraid of the awkwardness that comes with making conversation. Instead, I focus on the potential connections I could make.
I also try to be open and honest with people. When I’m comfortable enough to open up, it helps to build trust and strengthen relationships.
Conclusion
My experience has taught me that conversation is key to making connections. It’s not easy, but it is worth the effort. I encourage all of you to take the plunge and start conversations with anyone you meet. Who knows, you might just make a lifelong friend. Thank you.
